How "God Only Knows" was written

This is a great story shared by Neil Ratner, the Rock Doc, on WDST radio Woodstock On May 16, 1966, the Beach Boys released the groundbreaking album "Pet Sounds," which revolutionized music production and is consistently ranked number two on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The song “God Only Knows” happens to be one of may all time favourites. Inspired by the Beatles' "Rubber Soul," Brian Wilson created a "Pocket Symphony" incorporating pop, jazz, exotica, classical, and avant-garde elements. Despite its initial commercial struggle, "Pet Sounds" was immensely influential, with Paul McCartney and Jimmy Page praising its impact. The song "God Only Knows," co-written by Wilson and Tony Asher, is often hailed as one of the greatest songs ever. Their collaboration began by chance when they met at a recording session, and their synergy resulted in this timeless masterpiece.
